Have a Hoot of a Day!

I’m back today with one more challenge card to finish out my week.

Have a Hoot of a Day

I combined three challenges for this one:

  1. SCS Color Challenge 619: Tempting Turquoise, Wild Honey and Rich Razzleberry.
  2. Simon Says Stamp’s Wednesday Challenge was Anything Goes with a focus on Carabelle Studio products. I had this cool wood BD stamp from Carabelle Studio
  3. Freshly Made Sketches #272

I used Copic markers to color the images which are (MFT’s I’m Owl Yours (and coordinating dienamics). I added other MFT dienamics (Clouds and Scribbles) to finish off my little scene.

Thanks for looking. Have a super week.

Monogram It!

Falliday Fest continues on Splitcoast Stampers and today I am hosting a challenge called Monogram It!  Participants are asked to create monogrammed cards or gifts. This little monogrammed box is what I made for my challenge example. I started with a plain little chipboard box (about 3 1/2″ square) that I covered with decoupage paper.

Box

Mod Podge was used to adhere the decoupage paper to the box. I folded the flaps over on the bottom and added a piece of felt to finish it. On the top, I folded the edges over into the inside of the box.

For the top, I used a piece of coordinating paper that was cut to approximately 6″x6″. I placed the box top in the center and used a pencil to trace the box top so I’d end up with even flaps.

Before adhering to the box top, fold the corners in to where the pencil lines intersect.

I started by adhering the paper to the top of the box, then started folding over the sides. When I got the corners, I folded the flaps under again so they’d lie smoothly when I folded them over.

After I had all the paper on and it was dry, I added a chipboard letter that was painted with Anita’s craft paint (#11192 Macaroni Yellow). Once the paint had dried, I added rhinestone flourishes to add a little bling. There is also a row of rhinestones along the perimeter of the box top.

These personalized boxes make for a cute gift or it can even be used as the packaging for a gift. I hope you’ll check out my challenge on Splitcoast Stampers and join in the fun. I’d love to see your creation added to the gallery.

Twin Towers Me & Dad 1986       Twin Towers 2001

When I graduated high school in 1986, my father took me on a special trip to New York City. It was a commemorative year for the Statue of Liberty, which I loved (I even had her on my class ring), so it made the trip even more exciting.  That’s me and Dad (above) on the ferry heading to Ellis Island from Battery Park. We deliberately posed so we could capture the World Trade Center in the background. Little did either of us know that the backdrop we posed in front of would be forever changed one day. And in such an evil way.

It’s one of those times in history. One of those times that you’ll always remember exactly where you were and what you were doing the moment you heard (or saw) what had happened.  September 11, 2001, started off like any other normal work day for me. I hadn’t even been in my office an hour when I got a call from my mother.  She had been watching one of the morning news shows and called to tell me a plane had just crashed into the World Trade Center. I immediately went to the break room and joined a couple of other co-workers who were standing in front of the T.V.  We watched in disbelief as another plane came in and crashed into the other building. What?! Holy crap!  I couldn’t believe what I just saw…it was so surreal; unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed.  Then, the buildings collapsed right before our eyes.  Gone.

For the next few weeks I spent every chance I had glued to the TV watching the  the news continuously. One day I remembered I had the picture of me and Dad.  I knew that scene could never be recaptured so I decided to preserve the photo by creating a layout for my scrapbook and included headlines and clippings of that fateful day in 2001.

So, where were you on September 11, 2001, and how did you find out what had happened? Even today, fifteen years later, I continue to think about and pray for all those people that were affected by this tragedy. So many lives lost, so many lives changed. Never forget.

May God bless America.

Now Appearing on the Lido Deck…

Craft Studio

Yikes! My first blog post. I might as well be up front and start off with a disclaimer: I am not the most tech-savvy person so my first few posts may be a little rocky (read: they may look like the cat posted them while high on catnip).  I started setting up this blog in April and am just now figuring my way around it…five months later. So, there, you get the picture. Don’t judge.

I’ve decided to include a photo of my craft room in my first post because this is one of my favorite spots.  When I have free time, this is usually where I’ll be…in my beautiful room crafting my little heart out. Of course my room isn’t always this neat – this photo was taken just after I got the room set up a few months after moving into our new home.  I’m lucky to have an entire dedicated room – it’s a dream come true. My craft of choice is rubber stamping and cardmaking but I also like other paper arts too including mixed media and scrapbooking.   Although my husband and son don’t bother me too much when I’m in here, the animals are a different story. No matter where I am in the house, following closely behind are my two little sidekicks Piper, my Pomeranian of ten years, and our two-year old Maine Coon kitty named Daphne. They kind of look alike, huh? They’re about the same size but the cat outweighs the dog by about 4 pounds. Piper and Daphne are buddies and both love hanging out with me in my craft room. My husband and son actually get a little jealous because the animals follow me around like I’m the Pied Piper. Heehee.

I’ve been part of the Splitcoast Stampers community for over 12 years – you can take a look at my on-line gallery above – and I just finished a six-month stint as a member of the Dirty Dozen Design Team and am forever a Dirty Girl!  I finally took the plunge and started a blog because I thought it would be a fun way to be part of the stamping/crafting community on another level.  It’s just one more way for me to share what I love doing so much. It’s my God-given talent and I am proud to share it with whomever may be interested. If one person is able to find inspiration from my work or if I post something that teaches someone something new, then kudos to both of us!
