Day 3 – Dare to Get Dirty 2017

We’re moving along…it’s already Day 3 of the Dare to Get Dirty challenges. We’ve had some really fun ones this year. One of the fun things about being a DTGD hostess is that we get to see the challenges ahead of time so we can make samples for our fellow hostesses. There is a lot of planning and coordination involved in this event and everyone does a super fantastic job working together to pull it off. It’s one of the ways Splitcoaststampers gives back to their Fan Club Members. If you haven’t checked out SCS or the Fan Club yet what are you waiting for?

Here’s the card reveal for the sneak peak I gave you yesterday:

DTGD17stamperrobinThis was a sample card I made for Robin’s challenge (a.k.a. stamperrobin). Although it was a bit out of my comfort zone, I had fun piling on the supplies for this mixed media piece. I did a lot of spraying and painting to get the colors just right. This piece has so much texture too…I added mini art stones, layered die cuts, pearls, Prima roses, a metal key, ribbon, etc. I added Gesso to everything and sprayed again to get the patina look. While this card may look heavy and bulky it’s surprisingly light.

One of the other sample cards I made was for Marg’s (a.k.a. margscardcrazy) challenge. This was more up my alley.

DTGD17margscardcrazyAI created a soft rainbow watercolor wash background and die cut the sentiment (after it all dried) then pieced it back in with a couple of additional layers to make it more dimensional. I didn’t want to add a stamped image or anything to distract from that dreamy background so I just added a few clear sequins. I love the way this one turned out. Looks like melted sherbet, doesn’t it? Mmmmmmm.

And, finally, I made this get well card for Janine’s (a.k.a. jaybee) challenge in which I channeled my inner Sandy-Allnock. I am so inspired by Sandy’s work and follow her blog regularly. She’s a fantastic paper-crafter and artist.

DTGD17jaybeeI will be back tomorrow for Day 4 of our Dare to Get Dirty Challenges with a few more cards that I’ve made. In the meantime, I will leave you with a sneak peak of the sample I made for my friend Jean’s (a.k.a. naturecoastcrafter) challenge. Come back tomorrow to see the entire card.

It’s Day 2! Dare to Get Dirty 2017

Welcome back for Day 2 of the Dare to Get Dirty Challenges on Splitcoaststampers. Today, I am hosting a challenge and it is a fun one! I gave you a sneak peak yesterday…here is the entire card I made for my challenge:

DTGD17jacquelineAAren’t these owls a hoot? (Pun intended) I can’t tell you all the details of my challenge because it’s kind of a secret for SCS Fan Club Mmebers but I will give you a few clues: my card was a combination of the color yellow, things with wings and sequins. wanna know more? Fly on over to SCS and play along. I’d love to add your card to my challenge gallery.

Here are a couple more cards I made for a couple other of today’s challenges…starting with the card I made for Lori’s (a.k.a. lmcaree) challenge. I used an image from one of my favorite stamp sets: Funny Foods from Simon Says Stamp. I just love the cute little images and punny sentiments.

Next is the card I made for Nancy’s (a.k.a. nwilliams6) challenge. I did very little stamping on this card…only the little tan panel behind the flip flops was stamped. Everything else is just patterned paper and the flip flops are chipboard. DTGD17nwilliams6There are a bunch of fun challenges posted today so be sure to go check them out. Here’s a sneak peek for one of tomorrow’s challenges:

It’s On! Dare to Get Dirty 17

Woo-Hoo! It’s time for the week long Dare to Get Dirty challenges over on SCS! It’s super fun and there are some great prizes at the end of the week. But you gotta be in it to win it! Stop on over and join in…click here to go right to the Dare to Get Dirty forum…new challenges will be posted daily and boy, are there some fun ones.  I’ve got two coming up…one tomorrow and another on Tuesday so I hope you’ll join in.

Here are a few of the cards I made for today’s challenges.  This first card is for Sandee’s (a.k.a stampersandee) DTGD challenge, I started by swiping Distress Oxide inks in Wilted Violet, Worn Lipstick and Iced Spruce onto a piece of acetate, spritzed with water and smooshed onto watercolor paper. Once I was satisfied with the results, I stenciled over the top with Iced Spruce Distress Oxide ink. The sentiment was stamped with regular distress ink (Wilted Violet) first, then I went back over it with the Distress Oxide ink…using the MISTI which really came in handy. The cute shades were cut from mirrored silver cardstock using a MFT die.  Added a few Nuvo Crystal Drops to finish it off.

My next card is a sample I made for Bev’s (TexasGrammy’s) challenge. The colorful strip started out as an entire A2 card front (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″). I heat embossed the triangle pattern (Simon Says Stamp Abstract Triangles background stamp) using Hero Arts white embossing powder then filled in each triangle with watercolors purposely overlapping the colors to achieve additional colors and triangles.  It was a little overpowering left as it so I cut it into a strip and left quite a bit of white space.

I also made a sample card for Dina’s (a.k.a. dini) challenge today. I first made a background (A2) by gluing strips of different patterned pieces from Echo Park’s Happy Days collection. When I had all the strips in place where I wanted them, I then cut bigger strips using MFT’s Horizontal Stitched Strips dienamics to form my background. I wanted the fun, colorful pattern to be the star of the show so I kept things simple by just adding a framed sentiment.

There are five challenges posted each day so check out my gallery to see the other cards I made today. If you’re not already a SCS Fan Club member, be sure to sign up so you can access all these challenges as well as many other Fan Club benefits. I’ll be back tomorrow with a few more Dare to Get Dirty 2017 challenge cards.  Meanwhile, . Here’s a sneak peek…

Celebrate Freedom!

It’s been a long time. Phew! I’ve had a busy month (June). I had a wonderful visit from my adorable twin nieces who live in Colorado. I’ve just had busy weekends too (Father’s Day, Birthday’s, etc.) and haven’t had the time to post here or on Splitcoaststampers but I’m getting back on track now. I’m popping in quickly tonight to share a card I made recently for Independence Day. It was for SCS Teapot Challenge and I combined it with last Friday’s Mix-Ability challenge.

I started with a piece of watercolor paper and added various shades of blue Brushos spritzed with water. Once dried, I added spackle through a stencil to create the fireworks. Once that was dry I went in and added a few silver Nuvo glitter drops. I covered the bottom portion of the card with a panel that I cut from the NY skyline die-namic from MFT. This card wasn’t planned, it just sort of fell into place and I LOVE it!

Products used: (cardstock) MFT Black Licorice, After Midnight, Watercolor Paper; (stamps) Taylored Expressions, (misc.) Versamark, White Embossing Powder (Hero Arts), Nuvo Glitter Drops (silver), Echo Park Stencil (Fireworks), spackle, Brushos, MFT NYC Skyline Dienamics
